Sigune Hamann is a Reader in Art and Media Practice at Camberwell, Chelsea and Wimbledon Colleges of Arts, University of the Arts London. Her interdisciplinary practice spans photography, video, sound, and installation art, with exhibitions at institutions like Kunstraum Düsseldorf, Istanbul Biennale, Wellcome Collections, and Ashmolean Museum. She holds an MA (Distinction) from the Royal College of Art and a degree from University of the Arts Berlin.
Hamann's research explores the intersection of art, design, and science, focusing on perception, attention, and the effects of time on image construction. Her current two-year collaboration with Oxford University's Experimental Psychology department investigates how physical interaction with images alters perception and self-awareness. Key research areas include:
- Hybrid media forms combining photography/video with performative elements
- Neuroscientific approaches to visual cognition
- Changing conventions in image processing across disciplines
- Urban environments and movement in static imagery
Her artistic output demonstrates strong thematic consistency in perception studies and temporal experimentation, with recent works increasingly incorporating interactive digital formats and scientific methodologies.
Notable residencies and honors include:
- DAAD Scholarship for MA studies
- Residencies at Delfina Studio Trust, Künstlerhaus Schloss Balmoral, V&A, and Tokyo Wonder Site
- Curator of 'Stillness and Movement' symposium at Tate Modern
Educational initiatives include 'Changing Perception of Images' (Wellcome Collection), 'Interpreting Objects' (V&A collaboration), and cross-disciplinary platforms connecting art/design students with Oxford University researchers.
