Shirin Jarrar is an Associate Professor of Finance and Entrepreneurship at the Edinburgh Business School, part of Heriot-Watt University's School of Social Sciences. She has held leadership roles including Global Director of MBA Programmes and Senior Director of Studies, overseeing academic and operational excellence across all MBA modes and locations. Her role in establishing and managing the Dubai Campus MBA programmes since 2007 has been pivotal in shaping their success.
Educated with a BBA (Hons) and MBA, she transitioned from a commercial career at firms like BMW AG and Land Rover to academia. Her research focuses on women entrepreneurs in the UAE and Gulf region, employing frameworks like Bourdieu's Forms of Capital and Institutional Theory to inform policy and gender initiatives.
Shirin has mentored students in global business competitions and contributed to UN Sustainable Development Goals through her work. She led critical reviews, including the 2023 QAA Academic Review for MBA programmes, ensuring continuous quality improvement.
