Professor Dame Heather Jane McGregor serves as the Provost and Vice Principal of Heriot-Watt University Dubai, overseeing academic and administrative leadership. Previously, she was Executive Dean of the Edinburgh Business School (2016–present) and held roles in investment banking and as an entrepreneur. She is also a Visiting Professor at the University of Sunderland.
Education includes a PhD in Structured Finance (University of Hong Kong), MBA (London Business School), BSc in Agricultural Economics & Marketing (Newcastle University), and certifications as a Chartered Management Accountant (CGMA). Her expertise spans corporate governance, gender diversity, finance, and higher education leadership. She actively contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly gender equality and economic growth.
Research interests include gender representation in corporate roles, green finance, hydrogen technologies, and firm performance dynamics. Recent studies focus on Middle Eastern corporate governance (GCC, UAE) and UK interlock networks. Her work bridges academia and industry, with non-executive roles in public companies and advisory boards.
Awardees include a CBE (2015) for business contributions and DBE (2022) for education and heritage. She chairs the UK Government’s Honours Committee for the Economy and co-founded the Taylor Bennett Foundation to promote diversity in communications. Her leadership spans academia, finance, and non-profit sectors.
