Sherry L. Deckman is Associate Professor of Education at Lehman College, CUNY, and affiliated faculty at the CUNY Graduate Center in Urban Education and Social Welfare programs. She serves as editor of the Journal for Multicultural Education.
Her research examines how educators address issues of race, class, and gender inequity in schools, and how undergraduate students negotiate identity in culturally focused performing arts groups. Her book 'Black Space' explores these dynamics in higher education settings.
Professor Deckman's work has appeared in Harvard Educational Review, Teachers College Record, Journal of Teacher Education, and Urban Education.
