Nicholas Boston is an Associate Professor of Media Sociology at Lehman College, part of the City University of New York (CUNY). He holds academic affiliations with the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, and has taught in the Lehman Scholars Program and Macaulay Honors College. His research focuses on digital media, migration, identity, and intimacy, with a specialization in Black Europe and Black British Studies. Boston has held visiting professorships at John Cabot University (Rome), Freie Universität Berlin, and the University of Cambridge. He is affiliated with the Black British Voices Project and the Center for Place, Culture, and Politics at CUNY.
Education: B.A. from McGill University, M.S. in Journalism from Columbia University, and Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Cambridge (Life Member of King’s College). He has received fellowships from SSHRC, DAAD, CUNY Research Foundation, and the Canada Council for the Arts.
Recent academic work includes analyses of queer media representation, race in art, and organizational culture in media industries. His forthcoming book, The Amorous Migrant: Race, Relationships and Resettlement, explores intersectional migration narratives. His journalism appears in BBC News, HuffPost, Vogue, and others.
