Dr. Wesley Pitts is a Professor of Science Education in the Department of Middle and High School Education (MHSE) at Lehman College, CUNY, and currently serves as the Interim Dean of the School of Education. He holds a dual appointment in the Ph.D. Program in Urban Education at the CUNY Graduate Center. His academic background includes a B.A., M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. from CUNY institutions, specializing in urban education and science education.
Dr. Pitts’ research focuses on cultural sociology frameworks to investigate how urban science classrooms and teacher preparation programs foster success in science education. He leads initiatives such as the NSF Noyce Framework on STEM (Focus-On-STEM) and the CUNY Computer Integrated Teacher Education project. He previously served as Chair of MHSE and Coordinator of the Secondary Science Education Program.
His scholarly work spans multicultural science education, STEM pathways for marginalized groups, and innovative uses of ePortfolios in teacher training. He has held leadership roles in the Association of American Colleges and Universities Project Kaleidoscope STEM Leadership Institute.
