Dr. Sheena Sood is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Delaware Valley University. She holds a Ph.D. from Temple University (2019) and a B.A. in Sociology and International Affairs from Emory University. Her research focuses on the weaponization of yoga by far-right groups and ethnonationalist agendas in India, Israel, and the U.S., as well as decolonizing yoga practices to address systemic oppression. She also curates healing justice programs for youth and activist communities.

Her research projects include Weaponizing Yoga for Ethnonationalism and Yoga as Liberation Theology, examining yoga’s role in militarized contexts and its potential for social justice. She teaches courses like Introduction to Sociology, Gender and Social Change, and plans to offer a signature course on the Sociology of Yoga. Beyond academia, she leads yoga retreats, workshops, and sound healing sessions, emphasizing radical healing and decolonization.
She collaborates with organizations like the Philadelphia Student Union and Studio 34 Yoga to integrate yoga with social justice frameworks. Her future projects include a book on yoga’s weaponization and a Jamaican yoga retreat focused on chakra wellness.
