Amara Miller is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at California State University, East Bay. Her research focuses on cultural sociology, complex organizations, and social movements, with a particular emphasis on how systems of inequality are produced through cultural, organizational, and institutional mechanisms. She holds a PhD in Sociology from UC Davis (2018), an MA in Sociology (2013), and a BS in Physics (2009), all from UC Davis. Her work integrates feminist theory and critical perspectives to address issues of race, gender, class, and body politics.

Research Interests: Cultural Sociology; Social Inequalities; Feminist Theory; Body Politics; Yoga Industry Critique; Digital Media Activism.
Advocacy & Grants: Active in social justice movements including anti-police violence (Disarm UC), climate justice, and body positivity activism. Collaborated on the UC Democracy: A Manifesto (2017) critiquing university privatization.
Labs/Teams: Engaged in interdisciplinary research on yoga’s cultural evolution and co-authored studies on campus protest violence and Burning Man’s communitas.
