Shehzad Nadeem is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at Lehman College, City University of New York. His academic work bridges cultural sociology, globalization, and urban studies with a focus on transnational identity formation.
His research interests span:
- Globalization's impact on cultural identity (particularly in India)
- Urban sociology in global contexts
- Transformation of yoga from spiritual practice to global commodity
- Neoliberalism's influence on religious and cultural practices
His publication trends reveal a shift from analyzing outsourcing impacts in South Asia toward contemporary studies of yoga's commodification. Recent work examines how ancient yoga practices have been reconfigured within middle-class wellness regimes and neoliberal frameworks across transnational contexts.
Nadeem teaches core sociology courses including Sociological Theory (SOC 302), Urban Sociology in Global Perspective (SOC 334), and Urban Sociology (SOC 234).
