Dr. Shawna Tang is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Gender Studies at the University of Sydney's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. She also serves on the Executive Committee of the Australian Society for Asian Humanities and contributes to the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre.
- Education: Research master’s in Gender and Cultural Studies from University of Sydney; Master’s in Public Policy from National University of Singapore.
Shawna Tang’s research interrogates intersections of race, gender, and sexuality through decolonial frameworks, queer cultural studies, and Marxist critiques. Her work spans:
- Queer Southeast Asian migrant biographies
- Transnational lesbian identities
- Non-heteronormative family structures
- Queer pedagogies in Asia-Pacific classrooms
- Gender expression in neoliberal academic spaces
Her publications include:
