Sharon Eck Birmingham is a Professor at Campbell University, affiliated with the School of Public Health and the Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine. She transitioned to full-time teaching in the Doctoral of Health Sciences (DHSc) Program in Fall 2022 after contributing to its inception in 2016 and the development of the School of Nursing. Her expertise spans maternal and child health, healthcare access for underserved populations, and data-driven decision-making in clinical settings.
Education:
- BSN and Master’s Degree: The University of Iowa
- Doctoral Degree: Yale University School of Nursing (dissertation on nurse staffing outcomes)
Her research focuses on improving healthcare delivery through evidence-based staffing models, Medicaid policy revitalization, and interdisciplinary collaboration. She has taught in the Master of Health Professions Education Program and consulted on topics ranging from clinical quality to adolescent focus groups.

As a leader in maternal child health, she has mentored and managed diverse professionals, including nurses, social workers, and data specialists, across institutions like Massachusetts General Hospital and The University of North Carolina Women’s and Children’s Hospitals.
