Sharon Deane-Cox is a Senior Lecturer in Translation Studies at the University of Strathclyde, serving as Programme Director for Applied Translation and Interpreting programs and Director of Knowledge Exchange for the Department of Humanities. She holds a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship (2014–2016) for research on memory mediation in post-WWII French accounts, and a Carnegie Trust Grant exploring translation during the Belsen medical relief effort. Her work intersects Translation Studies with Holocaust Studies, Museum Studies, and Heritage Studies.
Research interests include retranslation (evidenced by her 2014 monograph), translation of traumatic memory, heritage site interpretation (as seen in her RSE-funded 'Translating Scotland's Heritage' project), and technological advancements in translation practice. She co-edits the Routledge Handbook of Translation and Memory (2022) and serves on editorial boards for Translation Studies and international committees like IATIS.
Her recent publications analyze translation in memorial museums, Holocaust poetry, and colonial memory. Awards include the British Academy Fellowship. Grant-funded projects highlight interdisciplinary approaches to heritage and technological innovation in translation training. She actively supervises PhD students focusing on memory, trauma, and translator history.
