Dr Emily Stiles is a Senior Lecturer in Modern History at the University of Winchester, affiliated with the School of Humanities. She specializes in Holocaust memory, modern Jewish history, and cultural memories of war and forced migration, with a focus on museum narratives. Her research examines how heritage institutions, such as national museums and memorials, represent historical trauma and migration. Notably, she co-wrote the concept paper for the UK Holocaust Memorial and Learning Centre, emphasizing British links to the Holocaust.
Education: BA in Media and Cultural Studies (University of Surrey, Roehampton), MA in History (University of Southampton), PhD in Modern History (University of Winchester, focusing on the Imperial War Museum’s Holocaust Exhibition).
Research Interests: Emily’s work bridges history and cultural studies, analyzing how museums construct narratives around forced migration, genocide, and cultural memory. Her book Holocaust Memory and National Museums in Britain (2021) explores museum exhibitions as sites of memory.
