Dr. Emiliano Perra is a Senior Lecturer in Modern European History at the University of Winchester's School of Humanities. He holds a BA from the University of Bologna, an MA and PhD from the University of Bristol, and served as a Rome Fellow at the British School at Rome (2008–2009). His research focuses on the cultural history of Holocaust memory, genocide studies, and political violence representation through film and television, primarily in Italy but extending to France and Britain. He co-edits the Journal of Perpetrator Research and co-founded the Perpetrator Studies Network (Utrecht University) and the Centre for the Study of Racism and Anti-Racism in Modern Italy (CENTRA, University of Genoa).
Key research interests include cross-cultural and transnational approaches to Holocaust memory, intersections between Holocaust and other genocides, and the public memory of political violence. He has supervised numerous PhD students and actively participates in international academic networks such as the Royal Historical Society and IAGS.
Major publications include Conflicts of Memory: The Reception of Holocaust Films and TV Programmes in Italy (2010) and articles analyzing Holocaust representations in media across Europe. His work bridges academic and public spheres, addressing topics like decolonization memory in British TV and Italian film debates on historical accuracy.
