Shannon Hoover is an adjunct music instructor at Furman University and holds adjunct roles at South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts & Humanities, Davidson College, and Lander University. A freelance performer, composer, and music educator, he specializes in jazz piano, improvisation, and bass. Hoover is also the music director and co-founder of the Greenville Jazz Collective, a nonprofit promoting jazz education and performance in South Carolina.
Education: B.A. in Double Bass Performance (Anderson University, SC), M.M. in Music Education (Anderson University, expected Fall 2023).
Research Interests: Jazz pedagogy, music composition, arranging, transcription, and community music support. His work emphasizes bridging classical and contemporary styles through performance and education.
Professional Activities: Over 300 annual performances, recording artist (e.g., 2012’s Follow Me), and founder of educational programs via the Greenville Jazz Collective. Teaches private lessons at Music on Mitchell and leads projects like a Jaco Pastorius Tribute Band.
