Dr. Shannon Gray serves as a Senior Research Fellow, Deputy Director and ARC DECRA Fellow within the Healthy Working Lives Research Group at Monash University's School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine. Her academic appointment falls under the Health Systems Services & Policy department, where she leads significant research initiatives focused on work disability and compensation systems.
Her research interests span multiple critical areas in occupational health, including work disability, personal injury compensation systems, return to work processes, work-related mental health conditions, injury epidemiology, prevention, and rehabilitation. Her work specifically examines how compensation system policies and practices influence recovery outcomes, work-related mental health, and transitions between social support systems.
Dr. Gray's recent publications demonstrate a clear focus on healthcare utilization patterns within workers' compensation systems, particularly regarding low back pain management, physiotherapy services, and opioid prescribing. Her research employs robust epidemiological methods to analyze administrative data and improve understanding of system interactions.
