Shannon Gray is a Senior Research Fellow and ARC DECRA Fellow in the Healthy Working Lives Research Group within Monash University's School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine. She is affiliated with the Department of Health Systems Services & Policy and actively contributes to research in injury prevention, rehabilitation, and occupational health.
Her research focuses on injury epidemiology, injury prevention, and rehabilitation, particularly the transition of injured individuals from personal injury compensation systems to social security. She investigates recovery from road traffic and work-related injuries, return-to-work processes, and the impact of compensation policies on recovery. Her work also covers mental health at work, retention of older healthcare workers, and recovery trajectories of injured coal miners.
Recent research outputs indicate a strong trend in workers' compensation systems, low back pain management, opioid prescribing, and physiotherapy utilization. Her studies leverage administrative data to evaluate healthcare delivery and policy impacts in occupational settings.
