Dr Shan E Ahmed Raza serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Warwick, affiliated with the Applied Computing division and the Tissue Image Analytics (TIA) Centre. His research centers on developing computational algorithms for tumor microenvironment analysis through advanced microscopy imaging and machine learning techniques.
Dr Raza's academic credentials include:
- BSc in Electrical Engineering from University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Taxila (2008)
- MS in Systems Engineering from Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), Islamabad (2010)
- PhD in Computer Science from University of Warwick (2014)
His expertise spans Computational Pathology, Multi-Channel and Multi-Model Image Analysis, and Deep Learning applications in medical imaging. Current research integrates histology with genomics to develop novel tumor microenvironment analysis frameworks, building on his wet lab experience in tissue sample preparation for multiplexed imaging during his PhD and postdoctoral work.
Dr Raza leads multiple high-impact research initiatives including Histomaps (MRC), Precision Vision (CRUK), and BigPicture (ERC) as PI or Co-PI, while previously contributing to PathLAKE (Innovate UK). He spearheaded the NGFF interoperability initiative and developed the TIAToolbox for AI deployment in Computational Pathology through collaborations with the MONAI pathology working group.
As a core member of Warwick's TIA Centre, he drives innovation in computational pathology tools and methodologies while teaching Computer Graphics (CS324) and Computational Biology (CS424/CS904), mentoring the next generation of researchers in medical AI applications.
