معرفی
John Campbell is the Slusser Professor of Philosophy at the University of California, Berkeley. Previously, he served as Wilde Professor of Philosophy at the University of Oxford. His research focuses on the philosophy of mind, epistemology, and the nature of sensory experience as a basis for understanding mind-independent reality.
His work centers on resolving Berkeley's Puzzle, proposing a relationalist framework where sensory experience directly connects perceivers to high-level mind-independent objects. This approach contrasts with representationalist views, emphasizing primitive perceptual relations over conceptual presuppositions.
- Books: Past, Space and Self (MIT, 1994); Reference and Consciousness (OUP, 2002).
Their collaborative book Berkeley's Puzzle: What Does Experience Teach Us? (2016) has been critically acclaimed for advancing debates on relational vs. representational theories of perception.
