Professor Severine Lamon is a leading researcher and academic at Deakin University's School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences within the Faculty of Health. She currently serves as Deputy Associate Dean for Research and holds an Australian Research Council (ARC) Future Fellowship. Her work is centered at the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition (IPAN), where she leads cutting-edge research on skeletal muscle physiology, sex-specific adaptations, and molecular mechanisms of ageing.

Her research focuses on sex-specific muscle physiology, exploring how male and female muscles respond differently to exercise and disease at epigenetic, molecular, and functional levels. A key interest is the role of non-coding RNAs in regulating muscle mass and adaptation. Her work integrates multi-omics approaches to uncover mechanisms of muscle ageing and hormonal regulation.
The recent publications reflect a strong trend in sex and gender differences in physiology, with emphasis on female muscle health, hormonal influences (especially testosterone and oestrogen), mitochondrial function, and epigenetic regulation. Her studies combine human trials, animal models, and advanced molecular techniques.

Professor Lamon actively supervises multiple PhD and Masters students, with projects on epigenetic ageing, sex hormones, mitochondrial ncRNAs, and muscle biology. She also contributes to teaching in human and muscle physiology and is involved in national and international policy discussions on sex and gender inclusion in health research.
She is affiliated with key professional societies including the Australian Physiological Society, The Physiological Society, and the American Physiological Society, and regularly presents at major international conferences.
