Giselle Allsopp

Dr. Giselle Allsopp is a Lecturer in Human Physiology at Deakin University, within the School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences in the Faculty of Health. She is affiliated with the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition and is based at the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus.

Her research focuses on the intersection of exercise physiology, immunology, and aging. Key areas of investigation include:

• Physiological responses to resistance training under normobaric hypoxia conditions
• Effects of hypoxia on muscle strength and mass adaptations in older adults
• Leukocyte and inflammatory cytokine responses to exercise in aging populations
• Hormonal and metabolic adaptations to resistance training
• Applications of blood flow restriction training for muscle hypertrophy

Dr. Allsopp's work demonstrates a strong emphasis on understanding how environmental stressors like hypoxia affect physiological responses to exercise, particularly in older adult populations. Her research combines laboratory-based experimental approaches with clinical applications to enhance exercise prescription for various populations.

Dr. Allsopp currently supervises doctoral student Elham Yaghoobi, whose research focuses on Krill Oil supplementation and its effects on pain reduction and recovery from muscle-damaging exercise.
