Seth Papac is an Associate Professor and Graduate Program Director in the Jewelry + Metalsmithing department at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). Previously, he served as Department Head of Metal at The Oregon College of Art and Craft. His practice is trifurcated, encompassing teaching, conceptual jewelry production, and managing a limited-production jewelry company. He holds a BFA from the University of Washington and an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art.
Research Focus: Papac explores jewelry’s relationship with the body, history, and metaphysical concepts. His work investigates how jewelry acts as a 'ligament' connecting physical and spiritual realms, using materials and digital fabrication techniques like 3D printing. Notable series include Ligare and Cali Condensation.
Awards & Affiliations: Recipient of the Tiffany Foundation Award and Toby Devan Lewis Fellowship. His work is in collections such as the Museum of Fine Arts Boston and Cranbrook Art Museum. He serves as Co-President and Board Member of The Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG).
Teaching & Engagement: As a visiting artist, he has mentored students internationally, including in Finland and Colombia. His pedagogical approach emphasizes conceptual rigor and material innovation.
