Timothy Veske-McMahon serves as an Associate Professor in the Jewelry and Metalsmithing department at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), holding a BFA from Pratt Institute (2004) and an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art (2013). His practice spans studio art, critical writing, and international exhibitions within contemporary jewelry.
His research investigates fundamental human needs—communication, relation, transaction, and home—through conceptual jewelry that interrogates the tension between public and personal identities. This work engages semiotics, psychology, queer theory (particularly queerness and passing), social mechanisms, and hyperreal phenomena in digital culture. Veske-McMahon employs a divergent methodology blending traditional bench work with repurposed materials and virtual design.
Dividing time between the US and Estonia, his practice is internationally exhibited and held in public and private collections. As an educator, he critically shapes contemporary jewelry discourse through teaching, criticism, and publications.
