Dr. Senait Kebede serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences at SUNY Downstate Medical Center's School of Public Health, with additional academic appointments at Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health and St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College in Ethiopia. A pediatrician and global health expert with over 25 years of experience, she bridges clinical practice, public health policy, and international technical assistance across WHO, UNICEF, UNAIDS, and World Bank initiatives.
Her academic credentials include:
- MD in Pediatrics from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia
- MPH from Johns Hopkins University
- Project Management Certification (PMI)
Dr. Kebede's research spans global health equity, infectious disease control, maternal-child health systems, epidemic preparedness, and mental health integration in low-resource settings. Her work emphasizes transforming public health surveillance and optimizing HIV/TB program delivery, particularly for adolescents and children in Africa. She actively shapes WHO guidelines as a technical expert in influenza, TB/HIV, and antimicrobial resistance.
Her recognition includes the Gates Strategic Leadership Fellowship for Reproductive Health.
