Grace Chan is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Epidemiology at Harvard Medical School (HMS), with a clinical practice at Boston Children’s Hospital in the Division of Medical Critical Care. She holds an honorary faculty position at St Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Dr. Chan graduated from Harvard College and HMS, completed pediatrics training at Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center, and earned her PhD from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Her research focuses on maternal and child health in low-resource settings, particularly in Ethiopia, Bangladesh, and India. She leads international collaborations with the WHO and Save the Children, and co-founded HaSET, a global health NGO focused on mothers and children.
Her work emphasizes sustainable clinical and public health interventions, including kangaroo mother care implementation, antimicrobial resistance in neonatal sepsis, and the impact of climate change on health. She has conducted large-scale studies such as the Birhan Cohort in Ethiopia, exploring birth outcomes, diarrheal disease, and healthcare utilization. Dr. Chan has mentored numerous students and researchers and contributed to policy through her technical advisory roles with Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health.
