Sarita Shah is a Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and the Hubert Department of Global Health at Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health. She serves as Co-director of the Clinical & Population Sciences Core for the Emory/Georgia TB Center, collaborating with institutions across Atlanta and internationally. Her research focuses on drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB), TB/HIV epidemiology, and antibiotic resistance in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia, supported by funding from the NIH, CDC, and the Gates Foundation.
Dr. Shah holds a BA and MD from JHU and an MPH from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. Her work has been recognized through prestigious awards, including election to the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI) and the Society for Epidemiologic Research’s Roger Detels Award. She mentors the next generation of TB scientists, integrating trainees into all research phases from design to dissemination.
As a global health policy advisor, she contributes to evidence-based frameworks for organizations like the Global Fund, WHO, and U.S. HIV treatment guidelines. Her research has been featured in high-impact media such as the New York Times and NPR. In 2024, she supported Emory Rollins School of Public Health’s academic expansions, advancing public health initiatives and training programs.
