Scott Whetham is a Sessional Instructor of Tuba at King's University, combining academic teaching with a distinguished career as a professional musician. He is Principal Tuba of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra (ESO) and has performed internationally with ensembles such as the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Calgary Philharmonic, and National Arts Centre Orchestra. His solo engagements include works by John Williams, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and jazz composer Jeff Tyzik.
Whetham's teaching spans decades, with experience at the University of Alberta, University of Regina, Mount Royal College, and music camps like Musicamp Alberta. He is an advocate for music education, leading workshops and ensembles, including founding the Mill Creek Colliery Band (a British-style brass band) and the Tubas of Edmonton ensemble. He also contributes as an Associate Composer at the Canadian Music Centre, with CBC-broadcasted works.
His performance career extends beyond classical music into jazz and pop collaborations, including with Olivia Newton-John and at Edmonton’s Yardbird Suite. Whetham’s training includes studies at the Eastman School of Music and mentorship under renowned tuba artists like Dennis Miller and Arnold Jacobs.
