Andriy Talpash is a Lecturer in Composition at the University of Alberta, teaching music composition, theory, and orchestration. He holds a B.Mus. from the University of Alberta (1997), M.Mus. and D.Mus. in composition from McGill University (1999, 2005). His work spans composition, conducting, and education, with compositions performed globally and broadcast on national radios in Canada, Australia, Spain, and Turkey.
Research interests include contemporary music composition, orchestration techniques, and music education. His works have been commissioned and performed by ensembles like Calgary's Ensemble Resonance, Continuum Contemporary Music, and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. Awards include the SOCAN Young Composers Competition First Prize and representation at UNESCO's International Rostrum of Composers.
Grants include support from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Canada Council for the Arts, and CBC. He served as Vice President of the Society for New Music in Edmonton (2012-2016) and directed the Violet Collective ensemble. Currently, he oversees the University of Alberta's New Music initiatives.
