Justin Mariner is an Assistant Professor and Area Coordinator (Musicianship) at McGill University's Schulich School of Music. He holds a Bachelor’s from Dalhousie University and a Master’s/Doctorate from McGill. His research focuses on musicianship education and contemporary composition.

Mariner’s work spans orchestral commissions (Via Salzburg Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble contemporain de Montréal) and interdisciplinary projects, including film scores and live comic books with his brother Haydon Mariner. His compositions have won awards such as first place in the Victoria Symphony’s Reel Music Project (2005) and recognition in the CBC National Competition and SOCAN awards.

He collaborates with Ensemble Kore and serves as a concert organizer. Notable projects include scoring Jackie May’s TIFF-selected film Couldn’t Be Happier (2006) and The Affirmation (2009), a percussion-driven work commissioned by Gina Ryan.
