Scott Stage is an Associate Professor and Director of the School Psychology Program at NC State University since 2014. He joined the faculty in 2008, following 13 years at the University of Washington. He is a licensed Health Service Provider Psychologist since 2001. His expertise spans school-based interventions, behavioral support, and equity in education.

Dr. Stage’s research focuses on reducing racial disparities in school discipline, adverse childhood experiences’ impact on mental health, and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support. He has led federally funded projects totaling over $10M, including studies on functional behavioral assessment and school-wide behavior interventions. His work integrates quantitative and qualitative methods, including Poisson-based statistical analyses.
He advises students on topics like exclusionary discipline, college readiness, and autism spectrum disorder interventions. He oversees clinical training for Ph.D. and MS/CAS students, managing internship applications and accreditation documentation with APA and NASP.
Current projects include analyzing OCR data on disciplinary disparities, studying adverse childhood experiences via the Future of Families Study, and synthesizing MTSS research.
