Scott Lerner is a mixed-media artist and Lecturer at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), where he teaches contemporary art history and sculptural painting. His work bridges ancient relics with science fiction technology, exploring themes of entropy, cultural hybridity, and the intersection of historical and futuristic aesthetics.
- Education:
- MFA, Rhode Island School of Design
- BA, Oberlin College
Lerner’s artistic practice draws from diverse academic areas of interest, including prehistoric art (cave painting), digital fabrication (3D printing, laser engraving), and cultural studies (the Cultural Revolution, clickbait). His work often incorporates unconventional materials like burlap, found garbage, and Jewish baked goods, blending historical motifs (Mesopotamian figurines, spolia) with speculative themes (golems, Philip K. Dick’s dystopian concepts).
Recent exhibitions include In Response: The Sassoons at the Jewish Museum in New York and No White Walls at Yale University. He has also exhibited at Gallery 263 and collaborated with artist Claudia Yeejae Kim on projects exploring identity and cultural contradictions.
