Scott Hardie is a Professor and Head of the Department of Health, Sport and Wellbeing at Abertay University. He holds a PhD in Primate Behaviour from the University of Stirling (1996) and has served in senior roles including Psychology Division Leader and Director of Research.
His research focuses on Differential Psychology, exploring how individual differences influence behavior across sport, health, and mental wellbeing. Key areas include handedness, evolutionary psychology, animal behavior (primates), stress/anxiety, and psychometrics. He has supervised 8 PhD, 3 MPhil, and 4 MSc students, offering research degrees in these areas.
Hardie has secured significant funding including a £87K KTP with Penumbra (2011-12), a £360K SRIF grant (2002), and a £1.6M SPRG grant. His work has been featured in national media (BBC, Dundee Courier) and he serves on professional bodies like the British Psychological Society (BPS) as Chair of its Scottish Branch (2016-18).
He teaches modules on sport performance analysis, research projects, and student-led learning. External roles include reviewer for journals like Personality and Individual Differences and grants (ESRC/BBSRC), and collaborations with organizations like the Memory Box Network.
