Scott D. Plugge is a Professor and Director of the School of Music at Sam Houston State University. His responsibilities include teaching applied saxophone, chamber music, and administrative leadership. He is an active soloist and clinician, performing with prestigious ensembles such as the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Wind Symphony, and the award-winning Texas Saxophone Quartet. Dr. Plugge has performed internationally in the United States, Puerto Rico, Europe, and China, receiving critical acclaim for his elegant and virtuosic performances.
- Education: Bachelor of Music from Baylor University (1984), Master of Music (1985), and Doctor of Music (2004) from Northwestern University, studying under Dr. Frederick L. Hemke.
Dr. Plugge has held faculty positions at Central Connecticut State University, DePaul University, Southern Methodist University, University of Texas at Arlington, and Baylor University as a sabbatical replacement. He is an artist-clinician for the Conn-Selmer Company and performs exclusively on Selmer saxophones.
- Notable Achievements: Winner of the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition (1987) with the Texas Saxophone Quartet, finalist in the Chicago Discovery Competition, and semifinalist in the Concert Artist Guild Competition in New York.
His accolades include recognition in major Who's Who publications and awards for musicianship and service. Dr. Plugge continues to contribute to music education and performance through his academic and professional engagements.
