Nicki Roman is an Assistant Professor of Saxophone at the Peck School of the Arts, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She is on leave for the 2024-25 academic year. Her roles include teaching applied saxophone, coaching chamber music, directing the UWM Saxophone Ensemble, and instructing courses on Entrepreneurship and Music Business. She is a member of the Fuego Quartet (Fischoff Gold Medal winners) and Splinter Reeds, dedicated to contemporary music and commissioning new works.

Research & Performance: A renowned saxophonist known for virtuosic performances and championing contemporary repertoire, Roman has performed globally at venues like the China National Centre for the Performing Arts and the Université Européenne de Saxophone. Her work emphasizes new music collaborations, including commissions with composers like Clay Mettens. She has released albums Unquiet Waters (2021) and Migration with the Fuego Quartet.

Advising & Impact: Her students excel in competitions (MTNA, Army Band Chamber Competition) and have 100% job placement in Wisconsin Public Schools. She mentors via clinics at institutions like Interlochen Saxophone Institute and serves on NASA’s Gender Equity Committee.
Ensembles & Leadership: Founder of Splinter Reeds and Fuego Quartet, board member of Civic Music Association of Milwaukee, and Conn-Selmer/Vandoren artist. She advocates for gender equity in music through professional committees and educational initiatives.
