Sarah Whittaker is a Senior Lecturer in Secondary School Placement Learning at the University of Wolverhampton, Faculty of Education, Health & Wellbeing, based at the Walsall Campus. She joined the university in September 2022, bringing over 25 years of experience in teacher training, school leadership, and curriculum development.
Her educational background includes a BA (Hons) in Combined Studies: Music, a PGCE in 11–18 Music and English, and a PGCert in Higher Education. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Authority (FHEA), affirming her commitment to high-quality academic teaching.
Sarah's research and professional interests focus on teacher education, mentoring, curriculum leadership, and the development of resilient and independent learners. She has extensive experience mentoring Initial Teacher Training (ITT) candidates in Music, Drama, and Dance across PGCE and SCITT programmes, collaborating with multiple universities including BCU, Derby, Birmingham, and Wolverhampton.
She has played key leadership roles such as Senior Professional Coach, Assistant Headteacher, and Subject Mentor, and is actively involved in teaching school alliances including the Sutton Park Teaching School Alliance and the Arthur Terry Learning Partnership. Her work emphasizes reflective practice, continuous improvement in teaching, and empowering early-career teachers.
