Emma Luckhurst is Head of Primary Education at the University of Wolverhampton, Faculty of Education, Health & Wellbeing, based at the Walsall Campus. She is a Senior Lecturer in Primary Initial Teacher Education, teaching across levels 4 to 7, and leads both undergraduate and postgraduate teacher training programs, including EYITT and Primary ITT routes.

Emma Luckhurst's research focuses on Primary Science, Outdoor Learning (including Forest School), Subject Leadership in Primary Schools, Early Years education, and the development of subject and pedagogical knowledge. Her work emphasizes practical, engaging, and inspiring approaches to teacher education and primary curriculum delivery.
She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Authority (SFHEA) and holds memberships in several key professional organizations, including the Association of Science Education (ASE), UK Literacy Association (UKLA), Chartered College of Teaching (CCT), International Professional Development Association (IPDA), National Association of School Based Teacher Training (NASBTT), and Early Education (British Association for Early Childhood Education).
Emma has extensive experience in both school and higher education settings. From 2003 to 2015, she worked as a Primary School Teacher, including as a Phase Leader for Key Stage 1 and Early Years. Since 2015, she has been with the University of Wolverhampton, initially as a Senior Lecturer in Primary Initial Teacher Education, then as Interim Head of Primary Education (March–July 2023), and currently as Head of Primary Education (since July 2023). She is actively involved in shaping teacher training policy and practice, particularly in school-based routes.
She is affiliated with the School of Education, which is part of the Faculty of Education, Health & Wellbeing, and contributes to the university’s mission of delivering high-quality, impactful teacher education.
