Sarah Ward is a Lecturer in Education, Mental Health and Wellbeing within the Faculty of Education at Edge Hill University, actively contributing to the Centre for Mental Health, Sport and Physical Activity and the Sport, Physical Activity, Health & Wellbeing Research Group.
Her research centers on community and place-based approaches supporting children and young people's health and wellbeing, examining community resources across education, health, leisure, sport, and physical activity. She investigates participatory research methods that foster authentic engagement between researchers and participants, emphasizing community provision and resources in wellbeing initiatives.
Recent publications analyze student experiences in sport education and participatory research frameworks, reflecting her commitment to understanding community-based health literacy and educational interventions for youth.
She received the Innovation in Scholarship Award 2024 for 'Outstanding Collaboration' from Edge Hill University.
Current projects include The People's Health Project (a children's health literacy programme) and independent evaluation of an NHS Framework for Integrated Care (Community) service. She has presented on sport-for-change programmes and place-based educational sport impacts at conferences in 2022 and 2024.
Her work operates within the Centre for Mental Health, Sport and Physical Activity, which drives interdisciplinary research connecting sport, physical activity, and mental health outcomes through community-focused initiatives.
