Dr. MICHAEL OWEN is a Lecturer in the Department of Social Work and Wellbeing at Edge Hill University, within the Faculty of Health Social Care and Medicine. He completed his PhD in Physical Activity and Health at Edge Hill University in 2018, focusing on school-based interventions for adolescent girls. He is a HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist specializing in health behavior change and systematic reviewing. His research explores the interplay between physical activity and mental health, resilience building, and public health strategies. He currently supervises two PhD students and one MRes student in areas such as psychotherapy-physical activity interventions and outdoor adventure resilience programs.

Research Interests: Dr. Owen focuses on physical activity’s role in mental health and wellbeing, resilience, health behavior change, and social media analysis. His work often spans qualitative and quantitative methodologies, including systematic reviews. Recent projects include evaluating multicomponent interventions for youth mental health and analyzing social prescribing strategies.
Teaching & Supervision: Leads modules in wellbeing dissertations, research methods, and professional skills. Supervises undergraduate, masters, and PhD/MRes students. Active in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Wellbeing degree program.
