Hayley McKenzie is a Senior Lecturer in Applied Health & Social Care at Edge Hill University (EHU), specializing in child health, wellbeing, and student resilience. She joined EHU in 2014 and holds a PhD in Educational Research from Lancaster University, focusing on student resilience from a non-traditional academic background.
Education:
- Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Leadership and Management in the Early Years (Liverpool Hope University)
- Postgraduate Diploma in Post Compulsory Education (Liverpool John Moores University)
- Master of Arts in Education (Edge Hill University)
- Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Resilience and Wellbeing of Students (Lancaster University)
Research interests include qualitative methodologies (Delphi studies, realist evaluation), student employability strategies informed by her nursery business experience, and mental health interventions for marginalized students. She leads modules on child and adolescent mental health while contributing to initiatives like personal development portfolios for students.
Current projects:
- Eat, Sleep, Learn, Repeat: Interplay of Sleep/Nutrition with Academic Resilience (PI)
- Supporting staff wellbeing in mental health services via creative interventions (Co-Investigator)
Her work contributes to UN SDGs related to quality education and mental health advocacy. She serves as an External Examiner at the University of Sunderland and participates in research networks focused on children's wellbeing, higher education, and inclusion.
