Sarah Stoneback

Dr. Sarah Stoneback is an Assistant Professor of Trumpet at the Montana State University School of Music within the College of Arts & Architecture. She serves as Principal Trumpet for the Bozeman Symphony and is a founding member of The Bobcat Brass Trio. With over twenty years of professional performance experience, she has performed globally across the United States, Europe, and China with ensembles like the National Brass Quintet and Eurobrass.

Education:

• B.M. in Trumpet Performance, Arizona State University (2004)
• M.M. in Trumpet Performance, University of Colorado (2010)
• D.M.A. in Trumpet Performance and Pedagogy, University of Colorado (2014)

Research Interests: Her work focuses on integrating cognitive learning theories (especially Kolb's model) into music pedagogy, developing entrepreneurial approaches for studio instruction, and enhancing brass performance techniques. She emphasizes connecting students with professional experiences through chamber music and performance opportunities.

Awards & Honors:

• Award of Merit from International Trumpet Guild (2017)
• Led Bridger Brass Quintet as national competitors in MTNA Chamber Competition (2018)

Engagement & Outreach: She actively serves on the International Trumpet Guild Board of Directors, conducts high school workshops, and organizes touring performances. Funded projects include the InterHarmony International Music Festival and Eurobrass tours, supported by MSU grants.

Ensembles & Clinics: As a Conn-Selmer Bach clinician, she promotes musical education through residencies and seminars. Her early career included performances with the Stoneback Sisters and Brass ensemble, which presented over 2,000 educational programs nationwide.
