Sarah Proctor

Sarah Proctor is a Teaching Professor at the University of Strathclyde, affiliated with the Faculty of Education. She serves as Course Coordinator for Modern Studies and contributes to the Professional Development and Graduate Entry (PDGE) programs in Modern Studies and Educational Studies. Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary learning, literacy integration, and support for vulnerable student groups. She leads initiatives such as Holocaust education and Scottish Studies, promoting skills-based learning and sustainability in education.

Previously, she held roles as Faculty Head of Social Subjects in a secondary school, Network Co-ordinator for History, and Qualifications Design Specialist for the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA). Her professional activities include curriculum development for National Qualifications and Advanced Higher History, alongside projects like the 'Big History' pilot with the University of Michigan.

Research interests focus on literacy improvement through Social Studies, inclusion strategies for disadvantaged learners, and innovative teaching methods using digital tools. She collaborates with institutions across Scotland and Europe, including serving on the Scottish Association of Teachers of History (SATH) committee. Current projects explore transdisciplinary approaches in teacher education and local contexts of Scotland’s Great War history.

Her involvement in Knowledge Exchange programs extends CPD support to primary and secondary educators. Recent projects include the Climate Action Workshop (2022–present), investigating sustainability education, and a transdisciplinary approach to Social Studies teacher training (2024).
