Dr. Sarah McKoin serves as Professor of Conducting and Director of Bands at the Texas Tech University School of Music. She oversees all aspects of the university band program, including 5 concert bands and the 400-member 'Goin' Band from Raiderland'. Her responsibilities include conducting the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, administering the graduate wind conducting program, and teaching courses in conducting and wind literature.
Her research focuses on wind ensemble performance, conducting pedagogy, band direction, athletic bands, and contemporary wind literature. She maintains an active profile as a guest conductor, having led ensembles internationally including in Thailand, China (Asian Pacific American School Honor Band), Taiwan, and Israel.
Professional honors include memberships in:
- TMEA and TBA
- Phi Beta Mu and Pi Kappa Lambda
- Honorary memberships in Kappa Kappa Psi & Tau Beta Sigma
She previously held director positions at University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music, SUNY Buffalo, and SUNY Fredonia. Additional appointments include nine summers as Director of Transylvania Wind Ensemble at Brevard Music Center and faculty at Interlochen Arts Academy. She holds a DMA from University of Texas at Austin, with degrees from Wichita State University and Michigan State University.
