Dr Sarah Ireland is an Associate Professor in the Molly Wardaguga Research Centre at Charles Darwin University's Faculty of Health. Her research focuses on women's reproductive health, particularly in First Nations communities, midwifery practices, and culturally responsive healthcare. She holds dual expertise as a medical anthropologist and nurse/midwife, with a clinical background in remote healthcare delivery.
Education: Completed First Class Honours and a PhD in medical anthropology at CDU. Academic roles include editorial board membership for the Health Promotion Journal of Australia and leadership in research projects like 'Birthing on Country' and 'To Be Born Upon a Pandanus Mat'.
Research interests span Aboriginal health, decolonizing methodologies, two-way knowledge translation, and reproductive health equity. Current projects emphasize First Nations knowledge systems and midwifery practice integration.
Publications reflect a focus on refugee maternal care, intercultural communication, and participatory research in remote communities. Awards include the Gold Award for the documentary DJÄKAMIRR and recognition for Exceptional Research Performance.
