Sarah Houghton is a Principal Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth, affiliated with the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries and the School of Architecture, Art and Design. She serves as Course Leader for BA(Hons) Graphic Design and is completing a part-time PhD in 2028, focusing on the hidden history of Portsmouth Suffragists through visual communication design. Her work bridges creative practice and heritage innovation.
Her research spans the intersection of historical graphic design, suffrage movement ephemera, and the impact of digital technologies on meaning transmission. She leads initiatives like the Heritage Hub-funded 'Unfurling Portsmouth Suffrage Banners' exhibition (2025) and previously collaborated on the European-funded LEDA project, which explored active learning environments for postgraduate education.
