Sarah Green is Professor of Materials Engineering and Head of the Mechanical and Construction Engineering Department at Northumbria University. She holds a B.S. in Ceramics and Glasses from the University of Sheffield, Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from the University of Nottingham, and postgraduate teaching qualification from Durham University. Her research focuses on sustainable materials use, materials failure analysis, and development of novel composites from recycled materials.
With extensive leadership experience, Professor Green previously held positions at Durham University, University of Cumbria, and Lancaster University where she served as inaugural Head of the School of Engineering. She is a Chartered Engineer, Chartered Environmentalist, and Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3), serving on their Academic and Professional Formation Committee.
Her research portfolio includes sustainable material development using waste streams, failure analysis of engineering components, and applications of recycled composites in construction. Recent projects span nuclear materials characterization, wind data collection using UAV platforms, and cyber-physical system security. She has supervised over 60 Masters and PhD projects with funding from UKRI, EPSRC, ERDF, and industry partners including Ceres Power, Biomet, and Morgan Matroc.
