Dr. Sara Niner is a Senior Lecturer in Human Geography, Anthropology & Development Studies at Monash University's School of Social Sciences. She specializes in gender and international development with a focus on post-conflict Timor-Leste. Her work spans academic research, policy analysis, and fieldwork for UN agencies, Oxfam, and regional development bodies.
Research Interests: Gender equity in post-conflict societies, Timor-Leste's political evolution, SE Asian development dynamics, and feminist critiques of state-building. Notable projects include analyzing women's political leadership in Timor-Leste (2024) and examining dementia vulnerability (2023).
- Lead investigator on 7+ research projects including parliamentary gender equality studies (2021) and seasonal worker accommodations (2024)
- Edited major works like Women and the Politics of Gender in Post-Conflict Timor-Leste (2017)
