Associate Professor Damian Grenfell specializes in Global Studies at RMIT University's School of Global, Urban and Social Studies. He leads research on social conflict, violence impacts, and post-conflict societies, with a focus on Timor-Leste since 2003. His work bridges academia and practice, including managing the Timor-Leste Research Program and advising DFAT's Ending Violence Against Women initiative. Grenfell has held leadership roles such as Director of the Centre for Global Research (2012–2017) and program manager for Master’s programs in International Development and Global Studies.
His research interests span security studies, transitional justice, gender, and humanitarian interventions. Teaching emphasizes 'work-ready' skills for students in conflict contexts, covering gender, peacebuilding, and security. He has secured ARC grants and collaborated with over 40 Timor-Leste organizations. Recent articles address study tours in education, Timor-Leste's socio-political dynamics, and security in post-colonial states.
