Eleanor Gordon is a Senior Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at Monash University and Director of Monash GPS (Global Peace and Security). Her research focuses on building security and justice in post-conflict environments, gender inclusion in peacebuilding, and security sector reform. She holds a PhD in Criminology and has over 25 years of international experience, including roles in UN peace operations and advisory positions with international organizations.
Education: PhD in Criminology.
Research interests include inclusive approaches to peacebuilding, gender equality in post-conflict settings, and the operational challenges faced by peacebuilding practitioners. Her work addresses issues like transitional justice, child marriage in crisis zones, and humanitarian responses to migration crises.
Key articles explore topics such as the gendered impact of localised peacebuilding practices, pandemic responses in conflict zones, and the role of military gender advisors. Her recent projects include advancing women's participation in UN peace operations and mobilising young women's leadership in crisis contexts.
Awards include the 2022 Bernard Brodie Award and multiple grants for advancing women's success in academia. She advises international bodies like UNESCO and RUSI, and edits journals such as Stability: Journal of Security and Development.
Her advisory and grant activities include roles with the World Bank, UNDP, and the UK Stabilisation Unit. Eleanor leads initiatives like the SCID Panel of Experts to bridge academia and practice, and contributes to global policy networks addressing violent extremism and gender mainstreaming.
She directs Monash GPS, a hub for global peace and security research, and collaborates internationally on projects ranging from civil-military coordination to gender-responsive security policies.
