Sangram Majumdar is an Associate Professor in Painting + Drawing at the University of Washington School of Art + Art History + Design, part of the College of Arts and Sciences. He holds an MFA from Indiana University Bloomington (2001) and a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design (1999). His research focuses on CRITICAL THEORY, DRAWING, and PAINTING, emphasizing gestures and fragments to challenge singular narratives.
He has exhibited widely, including solo shows at Mirchandani Steinruecke (Mumbai) and Geary Contemporary (New York), and group exhibitions at galleries such as Nathalie Karg Gallery (New York) and James Cohan Gallery (New York). His awards include the Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation Grant, NYFA Grant, and a Mellon Faculty Fellowship.
Previously, Majumdar taught at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) from 2003 to 2021, earning teaching and research grants. At UW, he secured the Kreilsheimer Arts Endowment and Jones Large Grant. His work appears in Artforum, BOMB, and Hyperallergic.
