Charlotte Becket is an Associate Professor in the Art Department at Pace University, part of the Dyson College of Arts and Sciences in New York City. She is also an active contemporary artist whose work spans kinetic sculpture, light installations, and public art projects.
Her research explores the intersection of mechanical systems and visual perception, focusing on how analog methods can generate projected imagery that challenges digital norms. Themes of technology, surveillance, environmental erosion, and human agency recur throughout her practice. She constructs sculptures with lights and curved glass lenses that project images of themselves, creating immersive environments that question the boundaries between the physical and the perceived.
Her recent exhibitions include solo and two-person shows at RuSalon (Brooklyn), Crisp Gallery (London), LEAP (Berlin), and Taxter and Spengemann (NYC). Her work has been featured in group exhibitions at Gazelli Art House, the Contemporary Art Center in Cincinnati, and the Invitational Exhibition at the Academy of Arts and Letters.
Becket’s artistic output shows a strong trend toward mechanical rhythm, looping motion, and the poetic inefficiency of machines. Her installations often transform industrial materials into organic, almost living forms that evoke pathos and humor. She frequently collaborates with other artists, such as Roger Sayre and Emmy Mikelson, on large-scale public projects.
